The Indian Premier League 2012 season, abbreviated as IPL 5 or the IPL 2012, will be the fifth season of the Indian Premier League, established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament will feature 74 matches, over a period of 54 days. Fixtures have not been decided yet. The tournament will be hosted by India and the opening ceremony will be held in Chepauk Stadium, Chennai, the home venue for 2011 Champions Chennai Super Kings.

Undeterred by the criticism over a long tournament in its fourth year, the fifth edition of the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on April 4, 2012 and conclude on May 27, 2012. IPL 2012 is scheduled to start in April 4 2012 to May 27 2012 . This time there will be no worldcup so the interest would be pretty high. The tournament will feature 74 matches, over a period of 54 days. “We are happy to confirm the opening and closing dates of IPL 2012, 10 months in advance. The match-schedule will be announced soon. We have no doubt that the fifth season of IPL will be as, if not more, eventful and exciting than the previous ones,” IPL chairman Chirayu Amin said in a statement.The tournament is scheduled after India`s return from their tour of Australia and South Africa`s tour of New Zealand in March.
